<p>Various debates have been stimulated about whether this new band is indeed revolutionary, or whether it is just another sales gimmick. There have been various studies that have found that the Power Balance wristband does not really have an effect on athletic performance.  The hologram that is inside the Power Balance wristband is suppose to work with the natural flow of energy in the body, consequently enhancing the athletic performance of the body. <p>The Power Balance Company had to apologise for its use of these words, ‘Performance Technology’, in their advertising campaign. There is, unfortunately, no scientific proof of the effect that the Power Balance wristband has on the body. It is thus understandable that critics and consumer commissions have been very serious in discrediting this product, feeling that people are being misled.</p>
<p>We should indeed be concerned about such things, considering the amount of young people who have been getting these bands for Christmas and birthday presents lately. Everywhere you turn, you will probably see someone wearing one of these bands – or at least before the whole controversy surrounding these bands kicked in. The company manufacturing Power Balance wristbands admitted, though still believing in the products effectiveness, that their advertising might have been misleading, and that there is no credible scientific proof of their claims.</p>
<p><strong>Test Results</strong></p>
<p>Some athletes tried to stay more objective and tried out the Power Balance wristband in an attempt to find out if there was anything to it. Dominique Dawes, an Olympic Gymnast, concluded that nothing replaces good-old hard work. She doubts that a hologram can make the difference that practise can.</p>
<p>Studies have also been done where sports performers were all given Power Balance wristbands, with some of the holograms being removed. No one could see whose was removed. The results showed no significant difference between those who wore the Power Balance bands with the holograms, and those who wore those without the holograms.</p>
<p><strong>Conclusion</strong></p>
<p>Unfortunately, for those looking for hard evidence – you will have to look toward the more subjective field of kinesiology, which relies on balancing the body’s various energy fields to heal the body.</p>
<p>Whether these Power Balance bracelets work or not, will at the end be a subjective decision. There are still various sportsmen and women who claim that it really works. You will thus have to decide for yourself by trying them out, or otherwise considering the evidence, or lack thereof, whether these wristbands are worth the fuss and R300.</p>
